Being Able To Turn Back Time On Your Web Site
I keep track of everything I do in reference to my web sites. This allows me to duplicate the results I had at a particular moment in time. Let's see how this has helped me boost my profits and saved me heartache at the same time.
Snap Shots In Time I have snaps of various moments in the "history" of my online ventures. By this I mean, I have saved for future reference the conditions that existed when I had record breaking sales days. I have either a file copy or printed copy of the following facts when these record breaking days existed:
- What my bids where in the
pay per click engines
- Note any changes that I made which may
have been
relevant to the strong sales
- Copy
of the web page html with a descriptive name
This is extremely educational
and has helped my profits increase dramatically. I
have learned quite a bit from the experiences
that I have saved. It is
also reassuring to know that by duplicating the conditions
at that time, I can bring the sales to a compariable
level that they were in at that time. This has save
my skin a couple of times when I have implemented
changes
which negatively effected sales. For Example
Here is an example of how I save my index.html pages as I make changes. When I have a record setting day, I will make a duplicate copy of the particular page(s) which were responsible for the sales at the time. In this way I can create a rolling diary of sorts that I can always refer back to if needed. Let's say for example that I was selling an ebook on "French Cooking". I had recently changed the sales page by adjusting some wording. On October 2, 2004 I had a record breaking sale day. I then save a copy of "french_cooking_salespage.html" and rename the copy as "french_cooking_salespage_EXCELLENT_SALES_Oct2_2004.html" Six months from now I could reference this if needed. I would have also saved a copy of all of the conditions that I had control over at the time, such as my bid placement on that particular day. If I needed to, I could reuse this information to bring back those conditions which gave me such good sales. You may be wondering if this takes up a lot of room on my computer. The answer is no. HTML files are small because they are mainly text. I have not only learned quite a bit from reviewing this information in the future, it is also a bit of insurance for you. You know that you can duplicate the conditions if necessary. This is a strongly recommended tip!
