Profitable Landing Pages That Work

As I talked about in a previous article, the simple changes that I have made to some of my landing pages have had very favorable results.

I wanted to share with you one of the landing page changes that I made for the Small Business Web Site. These have also had profitable results and may be worth considering for your own site.



Before...

Previously when I used Google Adwords for this site, I was simply sending them to the sales letter page that I had created for this site.


  

While this page converts pretty well, I decided it wasn't focused enough as a landing page. After all people were searching for a variety of terms in order to get to my site. They were all landing on the exact same page which may, or may not have be related to what they were searching for.

I also decided that it was important for me to capture their name and email address as much as possible. Since most people will not immediately buy from any site, it was important for me to not lose the opportunity to keep recontacting these potential customers.

I knew that I wanted to funnel my traffic through a signup process for my newsletter, but I also wanted that landing page to be more specific to what they were searching for.

Instead of sending them right to my sales page, I now direct them to a more customized landing page.

For example, I found that over 40 million people per month were searching google for the phrase "web site tips".

That was plenty of traffic to justify a specific google adwords ad group focusing on that phrase.

I made sure that the landing page had the following things in place:

  • The headline was the search phrase I was targeting

  • The page is straight forward with few distractions

  • It is focused on getting my "most wanted response" - for people to signup for the newsletter

    The Results

    I've been very happy with the results of those efforts.

    The signups for my newsletter have increased very nicely. I track which sources my signups come from. The increase in new subscribers can definitely be attributable to the changes I made.

    The nice thing is that it is very easy to modify that landing page over and over again for various keyword phrases. The effect being that people searching for those terms are presented with a page that very closely focuses on the very thing they were searching for.
