Keyword Research Tools

There is one mistake that I see web site owners repeatedly make.

They give little, if any, thought to what keywords they are going to target with each particular page on their site. Not putting thought into this can be a costly mistake.

A top priority should be trying to get search engine traffic to the pages on your site.

It helps to know what terms people would be searching for in order to find those pages. You can then take steps to make that page have a much better chance of matching those keyword results in the search engine listings.

Taking a few minutes to research keywords related to the topic of articles can have significant benefits.

You can easily uncover high demand keyword phrases which hadn't occurred to you. Knowing this information can help you target your web site's content for a phrase which can generate much more search engine traffic to you.

Paying attention to this will have profitable results for your site.

My Favorite Keyword Research Tools

  • The Overture Inventory search tool - I've been using this one for years. It is still useful in keyword research. As you enter terms into this tool, it will show you the amount of searches for not only that term but also a list of suggested terms to look into as well. This can be very handy when you are trying to come up with variations of terms.

  • Google Suggest - As you start typing in a search term in Google Suggest, you will start seeing related results underneath. The more you type, the more that the related terms start narrowing down. It is a useful research tool which has uncovered some very good terms in the past for me.

  • Good Keywords - This free PC program is built specifically to help you in researching keywords. Its handy and you can't be the price (free).

  • Wordtracker - This is still my all time favorite. At least give the free trial a test. You will get a glimpse into how powerful it is. If you decide to sign up for the service (which I did), you will see the full power of the all the reporting that it provides.

It not only uncovers keywords but more importantly, it tells you high volume keyword terms which don't have a lot of web sites competing for them. In other words, terms which you are more likely to get high search engine ranking for. Again, it is definitely worth taking a look at. It is one service that will easily pay for itself if you use it.

Now that you have these tools in your arsenal, I will be taking a look at a one of our member's sites. I will give some specific guidance on how to use these tools. More importantly I will show how to increase the site's profitability with the information that it uncovers.

That will be the next article I publish. Stay tuned.
