Simple Changes, Stunning Results
Ready For Takeoff? Give Them A Good Landing Page
This one has been on my "to do" list for much too long. Now that I've seen the results, I am kicking myself a bit. Without a doubt, I could have been earning more profits if I just took a little time. That item on my to do list was optimizing my landing pages for some of my sites.
Most people make the mistake of sending all of their traffic to the same landing page... Big mistake.

What Is A Landing Page? A landing page where people land on your site when you direct them there from another web site. If you use google pay per click ads, the page which you send the traffic to is the landing page.
Most people make the mistake of sending all of their traffic to the same landing page... Big mistake. An even bigger mistake is sending that traffic to the main page of the site in hopes of converting them into a customer.
Focus That Landing Page
The short and sweet goal of a good landing page is to have it as closely match the ad that was clicked on to send them to that page. For example, if you have an ad which says "Learn how to XYZ" as the headline, you want to send them to a specific landing page which uses a headline which is very similar in nature. Preferrably as exact match a match as possible. The reasoning behind this is pretty sound. When someone see's a very similar headline to the one they just clicked on, there is no confusion. They immediately think "Yes, this is the page I was expecting". If your landing page is anything other wise, there is a moment of disassociation. They tend to think "what did I just click over to?" or "what is the deal with this site?".
The Results of An Effective Landing Page
I have a variety of online sources of income. Some of them being ebooks for niche topics. I decided to create some specific landing pages for one of my niche ebooks and track the results. By going into google adwords, I looked at the various terms that were sending traffic to that ebook. I then organized them into similar groups and then created a targeted landing page for one of those keyword groups.
The landing page had only one specific purpose in mind: to get people to signup for the autoresponder newsletter for that product. The newsletter has close to a 4% closing rate on it. That is nearly 4 out of every hundred people who signup, end up buying the ebook over the course of the autoresponder sequence. It is more profitable for me to have people sign up for the newsletter first. After they signup for the newsletter, then they are redirected to the true sales page for the product as well. That sales page acknowledges that they just signed up but makes mention of the fact that they can get the ebook instantly by ordering from that page. The results for creating one targeted landing page have been pretty dramatic as shown below. This is a screen shot of the amount of signups for one particular newsletter from that one specific ebook:
As you can see from the chart, the amount of signups for the newsletter has more than doubled. With a a few test tweaks to the page, I was able to even increase it substantially more.
The Bottom Line This small amount of work (about 1/2 an hour) is likely to result in hundreds of dollars extra per month for me. Automatically. And that is for just one group of keywords for one particular ebook. There are other important considerations as well for effective landing pages. I will cover those in some up coming articles.
