I have been able to give a very significant boost to those pages where a professional ecover has been used.

There are many services that offer to create custom covers for you, but I am a "do it yourself" kind of guy. I have tried experimenting with some of the various instant ebook cover software programs out there. The results have been mixed with some great results and some terrible ones.

I recently was given the opportunity to review a comprehensive set of ecover generator scripts for Photoshop. They are the eCoverMagic action scripts. PhotoShop Action Scripts

When these action scripts are placed in your Adobe Photoshop directory, they are instantly available to you.

It is simply a matter of "pressing play" on the scripts and let them instantly go to work.

Here is a screen shot. You press the play button which is pointed out by the red arrow. Within about 2 seconds, your cover is half way done. It then creates a flat version of the ecover for you:

After customizing anything you want with the graphic, you then play "step 2" of the action script which finishes off the graphic for you. Here is an example of what I was able to come up with in about 30 seconds of my time:

That cover was created without giving a lot of thought into it.

You'll notice that I was able to add images, change the color, text etc. All of the layers are completely editable before you press the play button to finish the product. Your finished product can be whatever size you want.

Ease of Use

You do not have to be a Photoshop wizard to be able to use these action scripts. Actually that's the whole point.

There is an included PDF report showing you step by step how to use them. Don't expect a lot of steps because there aren't that many (which is a great thing!). These scripts are enough reason to pick up a copy of Photoshop just so you can use them.

System Requirements

Photoshop 6 or greater (7 or CS) is needed to run these action scripts. Actionscripts first appeared in Photoshop 6 so that is the reason for this requirement.

That's it as far as system requirements.

My Impression

If you haven't figured out already, I am very impressed with these action scripts.

These scripts are very easy to use. The quality of the finished product is also very good. I was particularly impressed with the variety of ecover products that can be produced with these scripts.
