Make Your Site Stand Out While Increasing Your Visitor Return Rate
Why settle for being a clone?
Many site owners don't even give this much, if any, thought. A site having a personality? Absolutely. Whether you want it to or not, there is some level of personality or "feel" to a site. Unfortunately a majority of them are simply "blah" because no conscious effort has gone into it. You've seen the sites I'm talking about:
You will find that people will bond with your site much more quickly if it has a personality of some sort. Whether you make them laugh, get them thinking or make them angry, you are stirring up an emotion. These feelings are what separates a simply static, one dimensional site from one that people look forward to coming back to. This is a powerful way to increase the "stickiness" factor of your site. That is how you keep visitors coming back for more.
What about a stuffy business site? There's no way to instill a personality into that is there? Absolutely. The truth is, whether you try or not, your site has a certain feel to it regardless of what your intentions may be. In the event that no conscious effort has gone into a sites personality, it will come off pretty bland or "corporate". This makes it more difficult for people to have any sort of good feelings towards it. Some of my favorite sites are my favorites because of the personality of the person (or people) that run it. It is a great way to stand above the rest and really make an impression in someone's mind. Bottom line: don't be afraid to instill a bit of personality into your own site.
