"Thank you for your awesome subscription site! If a person with an online small business can't find the information they looking for on your site, it is my personal opinion that they don't need it.

You have done your homework and came up with a site that will be very helpful for any one in a small online business or thinking about going in business online for themselves.

Thank you!"

Thank you for such a fantastic resource! A subscription to your site has already quickly benefitted me. In particular, your articles and resources are some of the best I have come across.

The price of this membership absolutely can NOT be beat! (Just the excellent bonus software and ebooks you give are worth much more). As good as the bonuses are, its the content and great advice that keeps me coming back.

Creation of a Profit Pulling Site Part IV

You can find links to the first three articles in this series at the very bottom of the page. Its recommended you read them in order to understand the steps involved up to now.

Driving Traffic To The Site

Now that Reviewitfirst.com was set and ready to receive signups to the newsletter, it was time to get the traffic flowing to it.

I wanted to do this as cost effectively as possible. My goal was to only pay for traffic with money that was generated from the site itself.

This is actual a quite common tactic for me. As particular sites earn more money, part of that money is rolled back into the promotion or work on the site.

This way the sites literally pay for themselves.

Free Traffic

One of the easiest ways for me to start driving traffic to it was by doing it automatically.

For me that meant promoting the site as I went about my day to day business.

I did this by adding a "signature" to any of the forum posts that I made. I visit a lot of places throughout the day and try to make relevant posts when appropriate.

At the end of each post, it is usually acceptable to have a signature box at the end of a post. This is simply text that allows for a modest amount of personal advertising.

The thing to keep in mind with a signature is that it should be consistent with what is considered acceptable on the forum. Because of the amount of time I spend on various forums, I get a good feel for what is considered "the norm".

Some things to keep in mind when posting to the forums:

  • only post relevant, helpful and useful information
  • don't post just to post - have something of value to say
  • get a strong feel for the forum before you ever consider posting
  • don't over do it with the signature
  • make it similar in look or feel to the average sig file on the forum

My signature looked like some variation of this:

-----
Ebook and Software Reviews
Review it before you buy it. Reviewitfirst.com

Simple? Yes.

Effective? Yes.

The Traffic Flow Starts

Within hours of posting a few different places, I already started receiving notification of signups for the newsletter. These people automatically started receiving the reviews by the autoresponder that I had set up.

In the first week of posting with the new signature, I had dozens of subscribers already. But more importantly...

Sales

Affiliate sales started to trickle in.

My first affiliate sale came around the 3rd or 4th of having the site go "live".

I made it easy to confirm sales originating from the site because I created an affiliate account specifically for the reviewitfirst site. Any sales that came into there were directly from the site.

I do this with all of my projects as it makes it much easier to track the results of my efforts.

More Content

Encouraged by the sales starting to come in, I worked on a few more articles. These were also "loaded" into the autoresponder account.

The nice thing about the autoresponder is that if someone signed up they get all of the messages up to the point where I left off.

For example if I only have messages set to go out on day #1, #7 and #14, all of the people stop at day #14 until I add more content.

I can then add another newsletter, say for day #21. Then everyone who had were paused at day #14 would then start up again and receive the newsletter 7 days later.

This arrangement makes it easy to work on reviews as I want to. When I add more to the newsletters, then the autoresponder sends them out at that time.

Getting Paid

My initial reviews on the site were a mixture between clickbank affiliate products and products with their own affiliate programs

The nice thing about clickbank is that they pay like clockwork.

I have been with them long enough that I have a direct deposit arrangement. Clickbank had contacted me last year to offer the chance of direct deposit and I jumped at the opportunity.

Basically on the 1st and 16th of every month my bank account automatically gets the deposits from all of my clickbank accounts.

I don't know if this is being offered yet to every affiliate or not. If not, clickbank will mail you a check and it comes in around the 4th and the 18th of each month.

The other checks come in everywhere from once a month to every 3 months. In a way it is kind of nice having checks show up sporadically every so often.

The only ones I mentally count on are the clickbank deposits, the others are just "a nice surprise" when the come in. Obviously it is easier to keep track of the Clickbank payments but I haven't experienced any problems with getting paid (knock on wood).

By the end of the first full Clickbank pay period, I was earning between $100 and $200 every two weeks. Not bad extra spending money at that time considering it was coming in automatically.

This was a great start but there are bigger plans in store...

Expanding The Possibilities

Now that everything was in place and it proved to be a successful model, the need for even more traffic (and subscribers) was obvious.

In the next article, I'll explain how I built up my subscriber base very quickly. You'll also see some of the extra benefits and directions I am taking the site to next.
