Some people may argue that it is being sneaky but the point is the people are ending up at the site that you are promoting. It seems to overcome their reluctance to click on the link.
It has proven itself to work very well for me when I have put it into place.
Which brings me to the next point.
I don't do this with every product.
Actually I save it for only sites that are converting well or that I know are going to do very well with a new product release.
There is after all the domain fee so you want to make sure you will at least make a sale! I watch the products that I am able to produce some sales on pretty quickly. Once they have proven themselves to be converting customers into buyers, I am much more likely to apply this tactic.
