Creation Of A Profit Pulling Site Part II
Make sure you have read the first part of this series before reading this one. This is continued from where I left off. The decision for my web site came from a posting in one of the forums that I visit. Someone had asked for an opinion on an ebook that they were thinking of buying. It so happened that I had already written an article reviewing this very ebook. One of the comments made was that they were looking for an unbiased review. They did not want some hyped up plug for it (which is typical of ebook reviews). This got me thinking. I am sure quite a few people would like real reviews (myself included). I decided to start a site strictly for people thinking about buying an ebook or software. I thought they should be able to review it first before buying it. The Concept Of The Site The still unnamed site (at the time) would have the following goals:
Naming The Site Once I knew I wanted to do a review site, I went through the task of trying to come up with a name for it. I looked up different variations like "ebook review" "product reviews" etc. I was only going to settle for a ".com" name because I wanted to make it as easy as possible to remember. While deciding on the name, it occurred to me that the whole concept would be that "people could review it first before buying it". This inspired me. A quick check showed that "reviewitfirst.com" was available! That was my choice. Creating A Memorable Tag Line I wanted some branding recognition to go with the ReviewItFirst.com name. I came up with the tag line: "Before you buy it, review it first. ReviewItFirst.com" Just in case I ran into spelling challenged people, I also registered the alternate version "reveiwitfirst.com". (Maybe some people think its " 'i' before 'e' except after 'v'" :) It only cost me $8.95 more, so it wasn't too hard of a choice to make. I registered both names at http://www.godaddy.com for a combined price of $17.90 Before creating the site from scratch, I took a look through http://freesitetemplates.com I came across a simple yet professional looking design and decided to use it. This cut my work down by a few hours. Cost $0 I use a web host which allows me to host up to 200 websites for a total cost of $29 a month. You can check out that site here . I have had good luck with it so far. I currently have more than a dozen sites hosted with them for the past 6 months. The only draw back is that all of the sites are under the same IP address. This is a drawback as far as linking purposes goes. If I decided to interlink the various sites, the search engines will know that they are all related and won't boost my page rank from all of the links from the "same family" of IP addresses. I am not concerned about that with this site. I have other sites on other IP addresses to help out with linking. Coming Up Next As the site concept and design started to come together, I still had some work cut out for me. Stay tuned to find out:
